It is groundbreaking news for Pakistanis that Manufacturing Of Cardiac Stents in Pakistan is no more a mere dream. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has inaugurated Pakistan’s first indigenous cardiac stent manufacturing facility at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). With this manufacturing facility, Pakistan will become the 18th country in the world to produce cardiac stents locally. In the Muslim world, Pakistan will become the second country after Turkey to produce cardiac stents. In South Asia, Pakistan is the second country after India to manufacture cardiac stents.


Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, states that:

Pakistan will develop the cardiac stents in line with European standards and will export to the global markets as well. Consequently, Pakistan will be able to save Rs. 8 Billion on annual import bill

In addition to this, he states that:

Local manufacturing of cardiac stents will reduce the price of stents. Consequently, more heart patients will get the benefits and more people will be able to afford cardiac stents

This year in March, the Drugs Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) approved the request of NUST for cardiac stents manufacturing.

Medical Equipment Productions Zones

In addition to this, a 200-acre massive medical equipment manufacturing zone is under construction in Faisalabad. Medical equipment like stents, syringes, cannulas, needles, X-Ray machines, and dialysis machines will be manufactured. Consequently, Pakistan will be able to save $1.4 billion on the import bill.

Furthermore, another medical equipment production zone will be set up in Sialkot. So, current annual exports of $400 million will rise to $2 billion within just two years.
