These Anti-Solar Panels Are Capable of Generating Electricity at Night

Solar energy is an integrated and essential part of renewable and sustainable energy. However, the major downfall of solar energy is that it cannot yield during night time. As solar panels generate electricity from solar rays so they cannot produce electricity after sunset. However, solar panels are going to generate electricity after sunset as well in the near future.

As per researchers, when we combine photovoltaic cells with thermo-radiative cells in solar panels, those panels will produce one-fourth of electricity after sunset. This worth mentioning that thermo-radiative cells are cells that generate electricity by using the heat energy emitted from radiative cooling. Currently, these cells are under the testing phase and many industries are doing research on them. Some industries harnessing the waste heat by these thermo-radiative cells.

According to an electrical and computer engineer from the University of California, Mr. Jeremy Munday,

We were thinking what if we took one of the devices and put it in a hot area and pointed it at the sky. A normal solar cell produces power by absorbing sunlight, which causes a voltage to appear across the device and for current to flow. In these newly developed devices, light is emitted and current and voltage go in the opposite direction, but you can still generate power. You have to use different materials but the physics behind that is same

This innovation will boost energy production by 12 percent overall, as per the sayings of researchers. Furthermore, this technique is a cheap and efficient way to keep the solar panels functional during night time.
